Creatinine levels typically rise when: the kidneys cannot filter it efficiently due to reduced glomerular filtration rate (GFR), dehydration temporarily reduces renal blood flow, creatine supplements increase creatine turnover, intense exercise or large muscle mass increases baseline production, or certain medications (like NSAIDs or contrast dye) reduce kidney blood flow
