Around the time the American Civil War began, tobacco and the use of native cigarettes had gained enough domestic popularity that the government set forth the first national tax on cigarettes/tobacco in 1864
Diamond Crown cigars were originally produced by the Newman family throughout the 1940s to 60s, but the name as you see it today was introduced in 1995, with the late Stanford Newman recreating the brand to commemorate the companys 100th anniversary
